Rudimentary, Footscray: “See what’s been ordered when I’m not there, or if I forget”

Why Jake finds his day-to-day easier with on-the-go orders and less phone calls to suppliers

Rudimentary started with an idea to transform an unused lot of land into something of significance for the area of Footscray. The lot had been in the family for over a decade but wasn’t used for much except parking. But once four shipping containers had been plastered together, an open, sunlit cafe, was created where once there’d been nothing.

 

This unique concept cafe has been blended with a community-style garden, where visitors can smell the fresh herbs that might also be in one of their dishes. 

Whether the Melbourne sun shines (or more likely, not), Rudimentary is always busy. We speak to Jake, the venue manager about how he uses Ordermentum to make his job that little bit easier.

“It’s been a nice addition to the day-to-day operations. I can just jump in [to the app] as the day progresses and put things into the cart from different suppliers. Then I can just drop back in and check it at the end of the day and place orders.” 

What makes it even better for Jake is the fact there are ordering records, reducing admin headaches. “I can go into previous invoices, and previous orders and see what’s been ordered when I’m not there, or if I forget what I’ve ordered.”

Initially sceptical about how he would adapt to the platform, Jake now sees how time-consuming offline ordering is, especially when he’s busy trying to serve customers. 

“I still have to make phone calls for certain suppliers that we use and the more I have to do that, the more I realise how tedious it is, [especially] when I have to get in before cut-off times.”
